This is the LaPorte Burn Training Facility. LaPorte is a small town near the Port of Houston. LaPorte is a very large industrial refinery city. It has a 'cottage' which is a typical ranch style house, three bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen, lounge and garage. There are 'racks' all throughout the house that have been stacked by our instructors with sweet hay (the worlds nastiest smelling stuff when burned). The stacks have been lit and all the doors and windows are closed once you enter it. There is no furniture, but they have simulated furniture with the racks.
There is also an industrial building that is three stories tall, lots of stairs and lots of dark rooms. Same thing, loaded with racks stacked with sweet hay and set alight.
In order to maintain your status as a firefighter, recurrent training of a live burning exercise each 12 months is required by the State of Texas.
