“Shaky Wedding Blues”
What an experience..Got to bed 3.ooam Saturday am...up early to get my daughter Carlys 14th birthday party organised as my wife Cathy went off to work.
10.00 am. phone call from Lee '" The Photographer",Are you still coming to the wedding? I try to find as many excuses as I can but then say um!! ok. He will pick me up at 3.00pm sharp.
12.00am.Must go and have a sleep for an hour before kids start arriving for the party.
12.15pm.First girl arrives with father,he wants to talk fishing,I am thinking wedding and starting to get a bit edgy,he stays for an hour.
1.15pm More kids start arriving...Cathy is out shopping for extra things..there goes my sleep.
2.45pm. Cathy arrives home,I am sweating ‘it must be hot.’
3.00pm. lee arrives,he shows me his case of cameras and lenses,All of which I have always dreamed of owning. He gives me some crash lessons on the one I am to use,Cathy wishes me good luck.. and off we go.
On the way in he hands me a wedding book for me to study the photos and procedes to calm me down..I ask how many people are coming and he informs me approx 150. * bloody hell! I go into panick mode again.I thought about 50 would be a good number.
4.00pm.We arrive at Southbank Convention Centre and Hotel 'guests are all staying in the hotel rooms. We head to the pool garden gazebo where the event is to happen and study our notes and the area.I sneak to the bar and grab a quick scotch before exiting to the car park to settle my nerves and send a text message. My phone then rings and the voice on the other end calms me down and gives me some more hints...*Thanks Patty.
5.00pm guests arrive and wedding gets under way..my camera to shoot with was a Canon ES300 that takes film, so I have not seen my shots out of that one yet,Thats very hard when you cannot check on the lcd screen.
I took about 100 on my Canon A75 and was using a Canon EOS 350D at times thru the nite..very nice camera.
I found that once I got going it was a bit easier but still very daunting...we got home about 10.30pm and I have not felt that mentally drained for ages.
Next morning I went to Lees to see the shots we had got.He said there is good and bad news,my 256mg card was somehow corrupt and showing no images ,I came out with a few choice words but he was already in the middle of downloading a site off google to refind the files,it cost him $50 to get the code password which I now have in case you ever have the same problem. And presto there were my photos again right back till our trip to Brisbane two months ago, isn't modern technology wonderful,I had deleted all those off the card and they were still there.
We took approx 700 shots between us He wants me to do it again someday,I will have to think seriously about that one.
