My big Medical Scare

On Wednesday February 17th, I had just finished going to the bathroom at work. When I noticed that the toilet paper I had used to wipe my butt with was Blood Red. I quickly looked in to the Toilet bowl and saw that there was a whole lot of blood at the bottom of the bowl. "What the heck?" I though to myself, I had no pain. I when back to work and started wondering what to do and which doctor to call? The walk in clinic (I call them "Doc in the box" because you don't need an appointment) or my Gastroenterology? After the shock wore off and I had come to my scenes, I chose the most logical one, my Gastroenterology. That night I went online to see what would cause the bleeding. I found out that Hemorrhoid, Anal Fissure, and Colorectal Cancer could cause the problem.

Thursday I called my Gastroenterology, but had to leave a message for his nurse. She called me just as I was leaving work, and setup an appointment for the next day Friday the 19th. Wouldn’t you know it, the bleeding had stopped by then. I visited the doctor and setup a Colonscopy Exam, for Friday morning the 25th. All week long I was worried that the diagnosis could be Colorectal Cancer.

On Friday February 25th the day of the test, Kevin drove me down there, and waited to drive me home. Thank God, I was sedated for the test, I had a Sigmoid Colonscopy Exam some twenty years ago, (no sedation) that was very uncomfortable. The Doctor removed two small benign polyps from the large intestine, and sent them to the lab for testing.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed, that the tests will show that I’m free of Cancer.

What a crazy world!

As you all know, I was diagnosed with diabetes on 3rd November 2004, I was given a sick note from the doctor for two weeks. At the end of the two weeks I returned to work to be greeted with an attendance review. Last week I had the flu. I had to take two days off sick, Monday and Friday, (I don’t work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays), which made my sick percentage about 11%, and you are only allowed 3% over a 26 week period. I returned to work on the Saturday. On Monday I had to have another attendance review, (one question asked at the review was “what steps did I take to get rid of the flu”, another was “did I explore all avenues open to me” (as a diabetic, I get a free flu jab). The outcome of that review was that I have to attend an investigatory meeting on Friday, to ascertain why I was off.

This and That about us Americans

I am a little slow in getting to read all the blog entries but did get a laugh on Patty's description of her take on her trip to the US. You know I never really thought about the fork and knife thing. Being left handed I hold my fork in my left hand leaving the right one to do the cutting so I put the knife down and just eat with the fork that is in my left hand. I knew there would be an advantage to this left handedness! The coffee thing is understandable. I know many countries drink and like their coffee much stronger than here. That's why I told Patty to go to Starbucks there you would have had something more like "home". The power thing is a lesson for me. Yes out electric is on all the time. No off or on switch. Just lower watts coming into your homes and establishments. Can't imagine what caused the three push downs for the toast. Only takes one here at home. I'm glad you enjoyed the people Patty but let me tell you even us "Yanks" get tired of hearing "have a nice day!" over and over. It's like the add "can you hear me now?".

All in all I think your trip came out well and remember we are in a different world over here on the West Coast and Pacific Northwest! Wild indians still roam here so some easterners think! Just kidding. HUGS to all Teddy

The man stood on a box was a human statue, very cleverly done. Looked very "statue like".

China Town, it was their New Year on Wednesday.

Covent Garden, we didn't realise it was as big as it was, full of unusual shops, and fantastic markets.

Rob and I went to London on Wednesday, we came across this monument of Animals in War. To remember the animals who took part in past wars and those that died. As the inscription says "We had a choice, the animals did not".

Prince Charles and Camilla

Here are a couple of links but I expect you are sick of listening about it. I have my opinions, they are 'no' to the marriage, but it is their lives, but, if they do marry I do not believe he should be King. These are my opinions. You may feel differently.

Milton Keynes

On Thursday Rob and I took a trip to Milton Keynes, which is about 75 minutes drive from us. We were told it had quite a large shopping centre. (Large shopping centre, sounded like a good idea to me.) The shopping centre was large, but rather stuck in the 80’s, and the outside of this quite large building looked like a product of the 70’s, and rather drab looking. On the upside, there was parking all round the outside of the shopping centre, and the dearest parking was cheaper than we pay in Oxford and Reading.

Unfortunately there was nothing to take a picture of, having said that, I wish I had photographed the outside of this building to show you. There are, apparently, some nice modern housing (they are building all the time), but we visited with preconceptions, so didn’t want to explore the surrounding areas. (I expect the original Milton Keynes village a quite lovely, ooops).

Milton Keynes was built in the 1960’s as a New Town, (there were several of these New Town’s built post war). The following is an extract from The English Partnerships – The National Regeneration Agency website.

In 1946 Great Britain faced a legacy of damaged homes and disrupted industrial infrastructure. The restoration of the nation’s war-torn cities provided an opportunity for improving urban conditions on a grand scale. New Towns were an important element in this strategy: they aimed to improve living and working conditions both in damaged areas and in wholly new settlements.

Welcome Home Patty

Well Patty I'm all ears awaiting your return and all the stories you have to tell us all. I'm sure you experienced many weather patterns, dirty streets, rude people, nice people, fast moving people, etc. Well that is the US in parts. The cab drivers must have been an education in themselves. I hear that New York is even better!! I know that coming from where I live in the Pacific Northwest, your trip would have been a real eye opener to me as well. I do hope you don't think that the whole US is like what you have experienced. I know you don't think that. There is a whole other life and beauty on our side of this great land. Welcome home when you get there Patty and I'll be looking for you. Teddy
