Here we go again
Yes I'm upset! Four more years with Military dodging, bible thumping, cheerleading, lier lier lier pants on fire, Mr. Twig! Now I feel better. I fear for the deficit that our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will be saddled with. He is no friend to the conservation of our land especially our beautiful Pacific Northwest. I think we all know he is not the one making the important decisions of this land. He has Cheney and Rowe to do that. I swear I see puppet strings on his arms and legs every time he makes a speech let alone the buldge on his back that even I saw, while on the podium for his first debate with Kerry. Too bad it didn't short out and then the world would have really seen his intelligence come out! The things I fear now: Where next will he invade?, How long before the draft is brought back?, He will destroy the Social Security as we know it so the young people can invest and where will they be investing? I think we all know the answer to that. What I wish: ALL of his military records were found and published, His REAL reason for going into Iraq was made known, His REAL ties to the Arabs and the Royal family there and the Taliban.(How ever you spell it!) I hate to think that after all the Republican errors involving the war, Halliburton, his military service, missing explosives,the flu vacine, etc. that we still have Americans that will put this man back into office by blind faith alone. America is being controlled by fear tactics every day of our lives. I wonder what color the terriorist alert is today? Do I feel any safer after his election in 2000 and post 9/11? A resounding NO! I think that has been proven at our ports and airports. If it continues I do fear for my grandchildren. Me thinks we are in trouble! Thanks for listening. Teddy

lawyers vs engineers
Three lawyers and three engineers are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three lawyers each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asked one of the three lawyers.
"Watch and you'll see," answers one of the engineers.
They all board the train. The lawyers take their respective seats but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them. Shortly after the train as departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."
The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
The lawyers saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So after the conference, the lawyers decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money.
When they get to the station, the lawyers buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.

I have been back at work for one week, and all ready I need a vacation. There having me set up alot of accounts, and at the end of the day, I can't account for myself. :D

My first day back to Work
My first day back to work after a 2 year, 4 month layoff was rather emotional.
First I went to a four hour Orientation meeting at 7:30AM. I received my new badge and a packet of information and forms as I went into the auditorium. There where 300 people with identical packets there. The speakers asked to see how many people were being recalled and who were new hires, almost two-thirds were recalled to work. They told us all about Boeing and all of its different business groups. Boeing has 160,000 employees through out the World in 60 countries. We all listen to the speakers talk about the various financial plans, health plans, life insurance plans, and pension plans. Then we had an ethic lesson on how to handle a situation where we would have access to preparatory information of another company’s proposal. Then we signed forms stating that we had been given the ethics training and a couple other forms.
After all that, we had to listen to a half-hour speech from our representative unions that represent the Engineering and Machinist employees at Boeing. Then we had lunch.
I didn’t get to my assigned work place until 1:30PM. As I walked through the security gate, I felt a little choked up, returning to my old work place. Had to wait a few seconds as the badge reader scanned the database to verify my badge?
Everyone was glad to see me back at work, and came around and shook my hand. They had ordered me a computer for my desk, but the site support people hadn't delivered it yet.
The building still has the nauseating pale Mustard yellow walls, and the old blast doors it had during the 60’s. They where installed by Civil Defense to protect us during nuclear attack from radiation, as we all where supposed to live in the inner hallways for a week or two with supplies. The supplies where throwin away a long time ago.
On the way home, I had the front left tire blow out on me, so I had to put the spare on and drive to the Tire Dealer. Fortunately the tire was under warranty, so I got a new one for the price of balancing the wheel $7.50. :D
Well, I'm glad I'm back to work, layoff was a very trying time for me.

Round the world for Royal Flying Doctors
Its on again,Every year about this time my brother gets involved in a virtual round the world flight in a Boeing 747-400 simulator which is being built in our shop in Sydney,Australia.Starts on 1st November,they live for a week at the shop eating flight food,and drinking beer I think!!!You can actually buy seats for different sections of the journey and follow the flight path around the world, all proceeds go to Royal Flying Doctorsworldflight

US hurricanes may spell cyclone woes for Qld
Weather forecasters say the severe hurricane season being experienced in the United States may point to the return of an active cyclone season along the Queensland coast.
Jeff Callaghan from the Bureau of Meteorology's severe weather section, says the Florida coast has entered a new 20-year generational weather pattern of advanced hurricane activity.
He says Australia's also due for a generational change and expects the region to experience between four and five cyclones in the next season, which starts early next month.
"In any given year we can get between one and two impacts, that means they'll come close enough to cause flooding, or damage, or the like," he said.

The Bus Tour
This Tour bus driver had just finished a weeklong tour, and was looking for a nice
long weekend. When he got home, he collapses in his easy chair. No sooner than he had done that, the phone rings, the tour manager was on the line. He asked the driver if he could take out a group of deaf mutes on a day sight seeing tour.
The bus driver complained that he was exhausted and looking forward to a little rest and relaxation. The tour manager said that the bus driver was the only one who knew sign language, and promised him a week paid vacation if he did this. The bus driver reluctantly agreed to take them.
The next morning the driver arrived at the station to drive the guided tour. The group of deaf mutes where already there with their translator. The translator told the bus driver that they where ready to begin the tour. He signed for them all to get on the bus.
He was driving them through the countryside, telling them the history of the area and the translator was signing what he said. After some time the translator asked the driver, if there was a place where they could stop and have some food and refreshments. He said he knew of a place and drove them there.
They all filed out of the bus and hit the rest rooms. Then some of them went to the bar and ordered drinks. The bartender was serving drinks, when he noticed one of the Customers tilting his head back, closing his eyes and opening his mouth. This startled the bartender, but he continued to serve drinks. Pretty soon almost everyone at the bar was doing the same thing, tilting their heads back, closed their eyes and opening their mouths.
Now the bartender was scared, he ran over to the bus driver who was at a corner table, reading the paper and drinking a soft drink.
"What are they doing?" said the bartender to the driver. The driver put down his paper and said “Oh God! now we will never get out of here".
Why? said the bartender. "Their singing”.
BTW: I told this joke on a bus tour of the South Island of New Zealand in 1980.

City Boy visits the Farm
I just returned from visiting my cousin’s farm in Eastern Washington. After many invitations to visit, I finally had the chance to visit. Unfortunately it was a bittersweet occasion.
My mother’s sister and her husband had moved over to Cheney, which are a few miles outside of the city of Spokane many years ago. Spokane is 300 miles (482.80 km) east of Seattle, Washington. It takes 6 hours to drive to Spokane. In between there is the Cascade Mountain range, the Columbia River and miles of dessert to cross. It can be hazardous to drive over the mountain pass during winter.
Mother and my, first attempt was to fly over to Spokane during the Christmas season some 15 years ago. We were successful, but my Aunts daughter and her daughter had the Chicken pox, so her husband drove us from the airport to visit with my Aunt for Christmas. After many years, several back surgeries, Moms Hip replacement and death. I remembered that I had warned mother that she had to see her sister before one of them died. It was time to make a visit.
The flight over was uneventful (kicking myself for not booking a seat on the right side of the plane (Who knew Mt. Saint Helen would blow that day?). My cousin Kathy picked me up at the airport and whisk me of to see my Aunt Beatrice, then we went to the VFW hall for a Spaghetti dinner. Had to watch what I said there, Republicans all over the place. We staid up to 12:30 catching up on things. I was surprised that they live in a nice ranch style house. My pre conception was an old two-story farmhouse.
Saturday morning, David (my cousin’s husband) drove me around the farm. They have 4 square miles (6.44 square kilometers) of land (all rolling hills) which they grow Wheat on. He took me to a point high on a hill, that over looked the Palouse Plateau. I could see 100 miles (160.93 kilometers) to the south, almost into Oregon and Idaho. David, a ranch hand and Kathy run the farm. Have to admire them for their independence and self-reliance.
Later Kathy and I went to see my Aunt Bea again. I was showing her pictures of Mom and Dad, when my Uncle (100 years old) hinted that it was 4:00 o clock and they where suppose to have dinner and we had to leave. They have caregivers taking care of them in their home. Kathy and I left. She told me, that he was mad because he wasn't getting the attention. Also I found out that he was abusive to her (he adopted her when he married my Aunt) and his own two sons from his previous marriage. After dinner, I showed Kathy how to use the Word program on the computer. She is going to fix up her part of the family tree, that I had given her a copy of the data set and a back up copy.
Sunday morning, David and I went out to bring in a portable generator that they use to pump water to a watering trough for the cattle. They are leasing part of their land to another farmer for grazing. He showed me his Combine that he uses to harvest the Wheat. I sat in the driver’s seat as he explained the controls to me. After that we all went to Aunt Bea's for her Birthday party (she is 88 years old). My Uncle behaved himself. Then it was time to go to the airport, to come home. My aunt was in tears, because I had to go, and asked if I would come over for Christmas. I have to book the flight now.

Careful what you wish for
Two guys in a row boat are fishing on a lake. A bottle floats by.
So one guy grabs the bottle and brings it on board. They find that
the bottle has a cork in it, so they pull it out.
Smoke starts pouring out of the bottle, and a Genie appears.
The Genie says, "you have released me from the bottle, so I will
grant you one wish".
One guy says "I wish the lake was full of beer".
The Genie says "It is done" and disappears.
After awhile of drinking beer, one of the guys all of a
sudden gets mad and yells at the other guy
"YOU IDIOT, NOW WE HAVE TO PEE IN THE BOAT".

King of the Hill!
I wonder if anyone will ever beat Ken on Jeapordy?? I heard he either got beat or quit as of Tues. but here he is again tonight. His brain power is unbelievable. Since it is a game show that relies on a contestants recall capacity and wide base of knowledge then he is a sure fit! He is close to a million and a half in dollars so maybe he doesn't want to be greedy! For those of you that can't receive this show there are several feelings as to this young man and his extreme success on this game show. I turn in just to see how far he can go and some others think it is getting boring looking at him each night. I imagine it is hard for the show to find people willing to stand up there aganist him. How ever he ends up, who ever beats him if they do, will be much scarier than him. Can't imagine anyone topping him. Go Ken!!! Have a good evening!

Fall is falling
I can smell it in the air and feel it in my bones. Our lovely summer is winding down. Rain is lightly falling outside and I can smell the smoke from neighbors fireplaces. I hate to see the summer end with a few more motor home trips and some kayaking left to do. I saw some friends pulling their kayaks down my street this morning while walking my dogs. I wanted to jump in and go with them.
Jim helped round up and ship out the baby Salmon from the pond he helps maintain in the summer. Hope they return in three years fat and sassy and ready to bite the bait!
All of this will give us good memories to remember as the winter swallows us up with the wind and rain we are so familiar with here on the Oregon Coast. Thank God for good books and satalite TV!!! Teddy

Our Sacariest Trip
As some of you know, Mother and I have traveled to almost ever country in the World. We have gone to one or more countries every year for almost thirty years from 1971 to 2001.
On one particular trip in October 1978, Mother and I went on a guided trip to Indonesia and the Orient. We started out in Oska, Japan, next was Taipei Taiwan R.O.C., then Singapore Malaysia, after that we went to Jakarta, Java where we boarded a Cruise Ship for a cruise to Bali and Bangkok, Thailand. We disembarked in Bangkok, where we spent 3 days before flying home.
Our scariest day in all the years we have traveled, happen in Jakarta.
We had gotten off the airplane from Singapore, and where going through customs, when we discovered that we didn’t have our Health certificates. They promptly pulled us into small room and asked us (in broken English) where our Health certificates where. We told them that we had apparently left them in the writing desk at home. They gave each of us a yellow card that said If you get sick in Indonesia, show these cards to a Doctor. I concluded that we would be Quarantine. After that we where released and collected our baggage.
Now comes the scariest part. We had no sooner collected our bags, than mother left me to guard the bags, while she had some money exchanged into Indonesian Rupee. I was standing by the bags, when an older Javanese man approached me and asked if we had a hotel room in Jakarta. I said no, that we where going to catch a cruise ship. He said “Oh yes the Princendam I know where that is”. We where expecting a Holland America Representative to meet us at the airport to take us to the ship. So when Mom returned with the money, I told her that this man was from Holland America, and he would take us to the ship.
So he hailed what we thought was a cab. It looked like an old pale blue Fifty style Ford Consort and had writing on the doors. We piled in, with him in the front with the driver. They drove down the parking lot, and picked up another man who got into the front seat with them.
It was terrible hot out and we where on a road that seemed to go on forever. The older Javanese man started telling us about having his bike stolen a week before and how corrupt the Jakarten Police where. Mother and I started wondering what he was getting at, and realizing, That we just might be robbed and killed.
Finally, we arrived at the port, the driver and the other guy got out of the car. The older Javanese man turned around and said; “Now you pay us Fifty American dollars”. We informed him that we didn’t have the Fifty American Dollars handy. He said “What you rich Americans, come all the way to Jakarta, and you don’t have Fifty American Dollars”. We explained that we had some American Dollars, travelers Checks and some Indonesian Rupee. He took what we gave him, and the driver came back and drove us around the Warehouse where the MS Princendam was waiting, and unceremoniously threw our bags on the dock and left.
We hurried aboard the ship and found the Purchaser and told him what happened. He apologized and said we where too early, but let us go to the lounge and unwind.
On our way back from Bali, we stopped to let people off the ship in Jakarta. I was on the Promenade Deck, when I swear I saw that same car drive down the pier. I thought to myself, who did they get this time?.
BTW, We had to take our shots all over again on the ship, they issued us new Health cards.
On one particular trip in October 1978, Mother and I went on a guided trip to Indonesia and the Orient. We started out in Oska, Japan, next was Taipei Taiwan R.O.C., then Singapore Malaysia, after that we went to Jakarta, Java where we boarded a Cruise Ship for a cruise to Bali and Bangkok, Thailand. We disembarked in Bangkok, where we spent 3 days before flying home.
Our scariest day in all the years we have traveled, happen in Jakarta.
We had gotten off the airplane from Singapore, and where going through customs, when we discovered that we didn’t have our Health certificates. They promptly pulled us into small room and asked us (in broken English) where our Health certificates where. We told them that we had apparently left them in the writing desk at home. They gave each of us a yellow card that said If you get sick in Indonesia, show these cards to a Doctor. I concluded that we would be Quarantine. After that we where released and collected our baggage.
Now comes the scariest part. We had no sooner collected our bags, than mother left me to guard the bags, while she had some money exchanged into Indonesian Rupee. I was standing by the bags, when an older Javanese man approached me and asked if we had a hotel room in Jakarta. I said no, that we where going to catch a cruise ship. He said “Oh yes the Princendam I know where that is”. We where expecting a Holland America Representative to meet us at the airport to take us to the ship. So when Mom returned with the money, I told her that this man was from Holland America, and he would take us to the ship.
So he hailed what we thought was a cab. It looked like an old pale blue Fifty style Ford Consort and had writing on the doors. We piled in, with him in the front with the driver. They drove down the parking lot, and picked up another man who got into the front seat with them.
It was terrible hot out and we where on a road that seemed to go on forever. The older Javanese man started telling us about having his bike stolen a week before and how corrupt the Jakarten Police where. Mother and I started wondering what he was getting at, and realizing, That we just might be robbed and killed.
Finally, we arrived at the port, the driver and the other guy got out of the car. The older Javanese man turned around and said; “Now you pay us Fifty American dollars”. We informed him that we didn’t have the Fifty American Dollars handy. He said “What you rich Americans, come all the way to Jakarta, and you don’t have Fifty American Dollars”. We explained that we had some American Dollars, travelers Checks and some Indonesian Rupee. He took what we gave him, and the driver came back and drove us around the Warehouse where the MS Princendam was waiting, and unceremoniously threw our bags on the dock and left.
We hurried aboard the ship and found the Purchaser and told him what happened. He apologized and said we where too early, but let us go to the lounge and unwind.

"OH What a Weekend"
Well,
What started as a normal weekend,Had me run off my feet.Got home from work at 5.00pm friday.Then opened the bar at 6.00,to be confronted by our town drunk ...No not me,!!!! but "Beercan". Turns out he has had the name for years.Shocked us all when he told us he was 53 years old.We all thought more like 73.Makes you want to become a teetotolar.
Anyhow, I kicked them all out at 11.30 and started heading off home,And guess who should be lying in the middle of the road ??but yes "Beercan".
We loaded him up in the ute and drove him home,much to the discust of my 11 year old.Well at this stage it was neally midnite and time for bed as I work at 7.30am Saturdays.
Phone Rings,Security on the other end,I have mulitple alarms going off at the shop,I really need this.So off to work with a pillow and blanket expecting broken glass ect!! ect!! To my suprise we had only had a blackout and the backup battery was not charging so that is why alarm went off.
Now wide awake so it is time to catch up on computer work and drink coffee.By 2.30 I decide to call it a nite and get some rest.
At 6.00am a truck pulls up out the front with a fridge van on the back,he is an interstater friend of mine carting bananas from North Queensland to the Brisbane Markets.After the usual words of "Did you wet the bed or something".
I really hate that sentence...sooooo original!!! He proceeds to tell me that his fridge used to cool a whole trailer load of bananas and fish"coral trout" has broken down and do I know of any fridge electricians.Now this "IS" Saturday morning in Townsville and I tell him he will be very lucky to find anyone open.
About 9.00am I finally find him a repair person and send him on his way so I can serve some customers.By home time at midday I am getting tired.Shopping to do on way home and pick up father in law from pub,he loves a bet on the horses.By the time we get home there are some friends at our place for an afternoon drink.Their goes my nap.
They finally leave at 7.00pm and we then get a phone call inviting us to neighbours house at other end of beach.Great!!!! Not happy Jan!! Anyhow these friends have a nice wine cellar and home brew kit with bar and pool table so how can a person resist that.My wife Cathy lasts till about 2.00am and goes home and leaves me there.I left about 4.30am and headed off home,no keys so am sort of locked out of the house and fall asleep on varandah as I dont want to wake everyone.Father in law wakes me at 7.00am and lets me in.Off to bed>
Kids come in and wake me at midday as it is Fathers day and we are booked in for lunch at local Bistro in town.Cannot find new camera that I took to neighbours so must have left it there.Will drop in later and pick it up.So we all head off to the bistro and do the lunch thing and arrive back home about 3.00pm.
I will be back shortly dear!! just going to pick up my camera.Now you have to realise,my camera is my right arm and I had obout 150 pickys in the memory card.
I arrive at friends place,say all the giddays and what a great nite it was etc!! I must go now ,where did I leave camera?? You took your camera home they tell me!! Now this is when I start to feel really sick,get back into the car and follow where I would have walked home,looking at both sides of the street as I was proberly a little bit tired and emotional at 4.30am.No camera so I go home and tell Cathy I am going for a nap.
She tells me she will go and have a look and put a notice in the shop notice board,we have a lot of rentals and visitors on weekends so I was not confident.We also had a half inch of rain overnite so all is lost.Thirty minutes later my daughter comes in with my right arm.They found it under the fig tree in my back yard.
The greatest fathers day present of all,

I know, I know..I've been absent for so long!!! Please let me tell you how much I am missing you!
I've had my cousin and her little boy visiting us from the UK for the past month and their holiday has come to an end tomorrow. I shall be returning them to the safety of their little home in England tomorrow evening.
The best part is..my best mate is going with me and we will be staying on for about a week touring around seeing the sights. She's never been to England, so I will be able to enjoy seeing things thru her eyes.
Imagine what a blissful week it will be, no husbands, no kids (she has four, bless her) no carpools, no football practices, no track meets, no lunches to be made up, no homework to supervise, no dinners to cook, no washing up, no laundry to do, no dogs to the groomers, no cats to the vet's, ......until we get back!!!!
I shall speak to you all when I get back, hopefully with loads of phoons to share (once I master the posting of pictures on the blogsite).
